Shopping in Pembroke Now and Then

Pembroke has a large number of small and large shops, which can be of interest to locals and tourists alike, there is something for everyone, From Food to Music to Models. Pembroke's commercial centre is based mainly among main street which is a long Street which starts from the Castle and runs up to the roundabout on the eastend.

In Pembroke you will not find any superstores such as Comet for one there is not the demand locally. However we do find a large amount of locally influenced stores such as the newsagents. The town does contain all that is required however with a book shop, music store, craft shop, post office, as well as many other stores that can be found in the local business directory.

However with the towns progression over the years there have been several "historic" losses, such as the cinema in Main street which is now the Paddles night club which over the years brought in crowds from the local area. It is also interesting to note the abundance of estate agents in the town currently however this could be expected when we consider what natural beauty the county of Pembrokeshire has.

We can also note that in such a small town there is such a large amount of pubs, this leads back to history as it was an important harbour in it's day and served many sailors, also the belief is that it is fast catching up with Tenby as the place to have a night out. The main supermarket still stands in main street and has for many years now, Somerfield and hopefully it will last for many more years from the influx of customers in the summer season.

The town of Pembroke is very attractive to a tourist aswell as locals, it supplies the regular items of need but also supplies many holiday curios which we can all take away and remember our holiday in Pembrokeshire! The main advantage to Pembroke is that all the shops are contained in one street and is accessible to everywhere including all the tourist attractions. This can be seen when studying a map of the Town.

Supermarkets

The main supermarkets are found scattered within 10 miles of Pembroke. In Pembroke Dock less that 3 miles away is the Tesco supermarket this is a large superstore which stocks all of the everyday goods as well as music cds, DVDs books and magazines. The supermarket has more than ample parking and also houses a Petrol station.

Also of notable interest a new addition is the ASDA supermarket, this is housed in the old CO-OP building opposite the public library in Pembroke Dock. Again there is usually ample parking to do shopping however this parking is shared with that of Pembroke Dock town centre.

Pembroke Dock also houses "Focus Do-It-All" which is a popular DIY store on top of this there are also a number of local hardware stores which are also very well stocked.

Further afield Haverfordwest (approx 10 miles) has a Safeways supermarket Halfords, and many popular clothes stores as well as WH Smiths which is the closest in the area.

Tenby also has a lovely atmosphere with a popular market and small stores which make it especially popular during the summer but is nice to visit at any time of the year.

Carmarthen (approx 30 miles) is probably the best town for large shopping outlets having access to PC World, Currys, Comet, B&Q aswell as many large stores in the town centre itself.

Good travel links including bus and train are available from Pembroke to all of the Above towns.
