Pembroke Dock being the newer town of the two, has the more space available and thus space availability. This is why Pembroke Dock has succeeded in bringing supermarkets to the area.
Again you will not find any high street electrical retailer here, you will have to go to Haverfordwest for this. However what we can find in Pembroke Dock is some very interesting shops from Tescos supermarket to Woolworths in Dimond Street, Pembroke Dock. Everything you would need can be found within Pembroke Dock within reason.
In the 1990s Pembroke Dock used to have a WH Smiths in the town, however they pulled out when the maintainance costs on the building they were occupying became to much, this building was then revamped and named Dickmans news agents, however a couple of years on this also closed, the store is now clintons cards.
Restaurants can also be found in the area which can be found within the Business Directory. Pembroke Dock was built to conteract the silting condition of the Port at Pembroke, and has grown ever since with a steady twice daily ferry bringing large amounts of traffic and with it much custom. Woolworths as mentioned earlier is present in Dimond Street, Pembroke Dock where you can get the latest music title, video, DVD or even toys.
On the route to Western Way Pembroke Dock (Between Tescos and the Ferry Port) in particular the Ferry Port Supermarkets have become a large number, featuring Tesco, ASDA, KWIKSAVE, and the German cut price food supermarket LIDL. Before 2005 the ASDA store was actually the CO-OP which was present for many years before, however the retailer struggled to compete for competition against Tesco since it arrived in Pembroke Dock, the store did attempt to fight back by introducing electricals and other items.
People have claimed that the arrival of such a large supermarket as Tescos has sent custom away from the town centre and thus is creating a downward spiral, this has yet to be seen. Also on the same park as Tescos is Focus Do It All, which sell anything from pets to concrete.
A very popular addition to Pembroke Dock came as a result of the success of its sister store in Haverfordwest by Pembroke Dock this is McDonalds which is on the same park as tescos and is successful partly due to the trade from Ferry traffic that passes by it when the ferry arrives twice daily, added to that the local interest of such a large multi-national.
Pembroke has a main post office in the centre where you can purchase car tax, cards, gifts and stamps, this is also the sorting office where undelivered parcels from the Pembroke, Pembroke Dock and surrounding areas can be picked up.

For the future of Pembroke Dock there have been rumors that a new Argos store will take it's place by Mc Donalds and Tesco, however this currently is little more than a rumor and nothing has yet been officially confirmed.
Neighbouring towns that have good shopping are Haverfordwest and Carmarthen, Pembroke Dock has good travel links to both of these towns with train and bus transport available.
